No, I’m not of Hebrew descent; Scandinavian, through and through. But, no wonder I’m wired to capture the drive of the human spirit and the fierceness or rapt beauty of nature.
I have been blessed to make a living by taking pictures for 20 plus years in the “still assignment” field and recently have crossed over into the “motion” field. I am more in love with the art of photography than ever.
Over the years, my clients’ projects have immersed me into several industries— agriculture, marine, industrial, pharmaceutical, education, transportation, financial, recreation and leisure—sometimes hanging from a helicopter and sometimes scuba diving to get the best angle to tell the best story. Whatever the projects require, I love to solve the challenges they present.
My work has been honored in American Photography, featured Photo District News (PDN), published in America 24/7’s book called Minnesota 24/7 and republished in the second printing of Selina Oppenhiem’s Portfolios That Sell. There are also a number of other awards my photography has received in over the years.
I have spent many years in the outdoors, traveling in the Arctic Circle, leading guided trips through the Quetico and Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. I am certified as a scuba diver and I have spent many hours in all sorts of weather behind dogs on a sled. My wife and business partner Kim, our son and daughter live and work out of Minneapolis, MN.
Jo·el (joh-uh l) 1. name and meaning given by “Mom”: expressive, adventurous and zealous for life; practically born outdoors. 2. a male given name: from a Hebrew word meaning “the Lord is God.”
